Brand Spotlight – THHiFi Face Red and Character

Debut of a new brand from the house of BGVP.

PROS: Good VFM proposition in its price segment, excellent craftsmanship, build and finish, well tuned fun take on Harman target, good tonality and timbre, bass lover bass tuning, good clarity, separation, instrument realism and resolution for the price.

CONS: Nitpicking – I would’ve liked a bit more air up top.

The product was sent to me free of charge for the review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Build, Quality and Design.

THHIFI has taken inspiration from Chinese heritage and design to design the shells of both IEMs. The design of Face Red is based on the red face element in Beijing Opera and Character’s is based on traditional Chinese characters skilfully integrated into the modern industrial design.

Both the Face Red and Character are excellently built using lightweight Aluminium alloy cavity made using German 5-axis CNC precision cutting. The surface then undergoes a lengthy process of polishing, oxidising and finishing which leads to a strong and high quality finished shell. They both have a unique DEP high-precision 3D printed acoustic cavity structure with each speaker having a separate sound tube and a concealed rear cavity vent.

Both use a light and powerful 9.2mm film for the dynamic driver. A custom resin diaphragm that is light weight and has a natural rebound makes up for the shortcomings of other diaphragm materials that are too loose or too rigid. They have a dual magnet structure that enhances low-frequency elasticity.

THHiFi Internals Breakdown

Cable – The cable is a mix of high purity single strand 15 core oxygen free copper + 24 core oxygen free, silver plated copper, with a total of 156 core wires inside. The cable has metal jack, y-split and MMCX connectors. All in all, nothing to complain about here.

Case – They both come with a very nice flip open leather case like the one Moondrop Kato and Blessing2 come with. It’s quite roomy, easily store the IEM and cable and have the THHiFi logo on top.

Fit and Comfort.

Both Face Red and Character’s shells are the same and are bigger than Tanchjim Hana/Oxygen as well as Moondrop Kato’s shells, which results in a fuller and much more comfortable fit. In addition to that, they come with 3 different types of ear tips that results is better customisation of fit. They’re so comfortable for me that they almost disappear after a while and I can wear them for hours on the end without any discomfort.
